Cinemagraph

Image
A cinemagraph is a hybrid between a video and a still image. Some elements, such as liquid or motion is animated while the rest of the elements are still.

Bringing action to life

Image
My favorite part of the image is the finishing motion, where I almost fall off the rail. I think the most difficult part of the process is making every layer blend into the background, as some layers might have elements that don't fit into the background, so it is somewhat photo-realistic. The easiest process was finding the big enough differences to use different layers.

Photographing Water

Image
Station 1: Fstop f/5.6 Speed 1/200 1. This was one of the harder shots to take as the black bowl and clear water leaves very little room for error. 2. I don't like how the flash gets in the way of the water motion drop. Station 2: lost the files Station 4: Fstop f/6.3 Speed 1/250 1. It was easier to get a shot as we just had to photograph certain stages of the dye in the water, not really any timing involved. 2. We tried to drop 2 dyes at first, blue and green, with a finishing purple dye. 3. I didn't mind not having the flash as the colors wouldn't contrast with flash. Station 3: Fstop f/5 Speed 1/250 1. This was a hard shot as the colored water didn't really make for a good drop. 2. The flash made it harder to position a good shot.

Motion Blur

Image
  1. I think the motion blur adds the idea of motion to the image, but looks similar to what a movie production would do to something like an action scene. This image looks very artificial and not possible. 1. I like the outcome of this image more as motion blur looks more realistic in a nighttime setting. 2. I think the most difficult part about the motion blur process is just trying to maintain reality, as it's supposed to exaggerate what somebody actually sees, while conserving some type of realism.

Shorebreak

 1. Before a career in photography, Clark surfed. 2.  I like seeing water photographed, as water is very hard to mold, so you have to capture it in the moment. 3. It's very monotonous, and not much variety other than different ways of photographing said water. 4. Nikon D4S, using waterproof housings so he could photograph in water environments. 5. I think that the ocean is meant to be seen every once in a while as a vacation, I wouldn't want to go there most days of my life.
